Using a first-principles approach that singles out doubly excited stat
es with the property of [r(1)] = [r(2)] and theta(12) --> pi as the cl
assical Wannier state at E = 0 is approached, we have computed the bas
ic properties of previously unidentified two-electron ionization ladde
r (TEIL) states for H- 'np(2)' P-3 and He- '1snp(2)' P-4. Trends regar
ding the decay dynamics and l-dependence of ionization near threshold
are established.
