Abstract
PbTe nanocrystals have been grown in doped glasses. By choosing the ap propriate glass matrix and controlling the heat treatment temperatures and times, the quantum confined energy gaps of the PbTe dots can be c hanged in the wavelength range 1.1 - 2.0 mu m. These glasses are poten tial materials for applications in optical communication and optoelect ronic devices.
