The objective of this paper is to discuss the numerical solution of sh
eet-metal forming applications using the ABAQUS general purpose implic
it and explicit finite-element modules. The three conference benchmark
problems of NUMIFORM'93 are used as examples in the paper. The analys
es were performed using combinations of the implicit and explicit vers
ions of ABAQUS. The numerical-modeling techniques used in these analys
es are discussed. The effectiveness and suitability of the implicit an
d explicit finite-element procedures for each of the benchmark problem
s are discussed.
