The correspondence between dual thermal transformations of the thermo
field dynamics (TFD) and gauge fields is studied both for abelian and
non-abelian theories. It is found that the action for the TFD represen
tation of a Dirac's lagrangian remains invariant under local transform
ations in k-space. The conserved charge coincides with the TFD vacuum-
generator G introduced by Takahashi and Umezawa. The relationship betw
een the rules of the TFD and the principle of gauge invariance in a th
ermal subspace is discussed in the context of a thermal symmetry break
ing.
