A field experiment was conducted to measure the effects of different v
esicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi at different phosphorus (P
) levels on the growth, yield and P content of China aster. Gigaspora
margarita, Acaulospora laevis and Sclerocystis dussii were tried with
P levels 0, 50, 75 and 100% of the recommended rate (120 kg ha-1). Amo
ng the VAM fungi Gigaspora margarita was the best for improving shoot
dry weight production, P nutrition and flower yield at 75% of the reco
mmended P rate, suggesting a net saving of 25% of the recommended P wi
th VA mycorrhizal inoculation.
