Abstract
Incubation of hemimethylated and labelled oligodeoxynucleotides with n uclear extracts from differentiating chicken embryos and mouse myoblas ts resulted in the replacement of m(5)C by C. One of the enzymes invol ved is m(5)CpG endonuclease. It cleaves only m(5)CpG and not, m(5)CpT, m(5)CpA, m(5)CpC or m(6)ApT. The enzyme is not sequence specific and catalyses the reaction in the presence of high concentrations of EDTA or EGTA.
