This paper examines transient shear wave propagation in a three layer
sandwich plate consisting of a viscoelastic core bounded by identical
elastic outer layers. The disturbance is initiated by an impulsive tan
gential line load applied to the upper surface of the plate. Results f
or various values of the viscoelastic time constants of the core are p
resented. These shows the variation of the lower surface displacements
with time, at fixed observer stations. The results indicate that, for
some vales of the time constants, the viscoelastic core provides effe
ctive dumping of the transients, while for other values the jumping is
virtually non-existent.
