Abstract
Some recent developments in the application of the Moments Method to s tructural problems are described. They include discussion of the origi n of Pauling's second rule, the heats of mixing of some transition met al oxides, surface problems, insights into the complexity of solids an d ways to capture the electronic aspects of disorder. Lee's conceptual framework for understanding the structures of the elements and alloys and the electronic underpinnings of the Hume-Rothery rules are review ed.
