DYNAMIC POLARIZATION POTENTIAL INDUCED BY DIPOLE COULOMB-EXCITATION TO BREAK-UP STATES IN LI-11 SCATTERING

The polarization potential due to dipole Coulomb excitation to the con tinuum of break-up states is obtained. The real and imaginary parts of the polarization potential is evaluated for the collision of Li-11 an d Pb-208 at different projectile energies. The potentials show a sharp energy dependence, characteristic of the threshold anomaly, at energi es below 100 MeV. Scattering calculations show the importance of the p olarization potential.
