UNDERSTANDING GAUGE COUPLING UNIFICATION IN STRING THEORY - A REVIEW

In this tell: I give a short nan-technical review of various ways in w hich the apparent unification of gauge couplings within the Minimal Su persymmetric Standard Model can be understood within string theory. Sp ecial emphasis will be placed on recent developments concerning string GUT models. This talk is a highly condensed version of a recent revie w article (Ref. [1]), which in turn is partially based on work done in collaboration with A. Faraggi end J. March-Russell.
