Df. Gluzman et al., ONCOHEMATOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF IONIZING-RAD IATIONS EXPOSURE ON HUMAN EMBRYO AND FETUS, Eksperimental'naa onkologia, 16(4-6), 1994, pp. 279-287
Today it is mot yet clear whether radiation exposure in perinatal peri
od is a causative or associative factor for increasing incidence of le
ukemia among the children. Relatively short latent period between irra
diation and the development of radiation-induced leukemia has been con
firmed in several studies. The comparative investigations of cancer ri
sk for the children, who were exposed in utero and at the age of 0-9 y
ears were made. The data of long-term study provide some evidence that
the effects of the radiation exposure in utero aren't limited to the
childhood but persist in their early years. The discovery of possible
mechanism of leukemias induction in the children of occupationally exp
osed workers and irradiated parents needs further research.
