In the rats exposed to ten intraperitoneal injections of benzo[a]pyren
e (BP) in a form of water-lipid emulsion, a total dose of 100 mg/kg, i
ndividual diferences in the levels of excretion of BP bioactivation pr
oduct, BP-7,8-diol, and a product of its detoxication, 5-hydroxy-BP, w
ere found. Tumors of internal organs, i.e. lung lymphosarcoma and peri
toneal malignant fibrous histiocytomas developed in 10 per cent of rat
s. These animals excreted with the urine more BP-7,8-diol, than the ra
ts without the tumors of internal organs. A possibility of prediction
of individual susceptibility to BP among the persons, who have occupat
ional or domestic contact with BP-containing products, is discussed.
