Abstract
The feasibility and the limits of pyroelectric infrared (IR) detection are evaluated using a radiometric chain model and the optimal structu re of the sensor is determined by a one-dimensional thermal model. Sam ple detectors are then fabricated and characterized. The best structur es obtained show a sensitivity of 5.41 V W-1 and a detectivity of 1.33 10(9) cm Hz(1/2) W-1 Finally the good operation of a rotating IR pass ive pyroelectric detector is experimentally demonstrated.
