D. Esteve et al., THE THIN-FILM COPOLYMER APPROACH FOR MONOLITHIC THERMAL FOCAL-PLANE ARRAY, Sensors and actuators. A, Physical, 47(1-3), 1995, pp. 403-407
The copolymer VDF-TrFE (VF2/C2F3H, derived from polyvinylidene fluorid
e with 30 mol% trifluoroethylene) used in a pyroelectric mode to devel
op IR focal plane arrays for civilian applications is compared to the
barium strontium titanate BST used in a dielectric bolometer approach
to implement a low cost IR imager. Comparison of the respective techno
logies, of the stability of both systems, and of their performances is
presented. In spite of the better performance of the BST, the VDF-TrF
E approach presents the advantages of monolithic integration, which ma
kes it easier to implement, and lower cost.
