The paper gives an overview of the variegated behavior of the Belousov
-Zhabotinsky reacting system. It is demonstrated that this relatively
simple redox process can exhibit a large variety of temporal-spatial p
henomena. Under stirred conditions concentration oscillations manifest
themselves; in an unstirred reagent chemical waves start to propagate
. If the waves are either physically or chemically disrupted, various
spiral structures and in gels scroll-waves form. Sustained chemical wa
ves and sustained spiral waves can also be generated and under special
conditions (on the surface of an ion-exchanger bead) the moving along
of twisted oxidation zones of chemical activity is observable. Connec
tions between chemo- and biooscillators are briefly touched upon.
