Abstract
We have isolated a partial cDNA clone, designated BCSC1, showing a hig h homology to the genes for the ubiquitin conjugating enzyme. This clo ne consists of a partial open reading frame encoding 130 amino acids, a 3' noncoding region of 216 nucleotides, and a stretch of 8 adenine r esidues. The relative expression level of this gene is higher in anthe rs and stigmas than in leaves and stems, Southern analyses indicated t hat the gene for ubiquitin conjugating enzyme exists as a small gene f amily in the broccoli genome.
