Ia. Anderson et If. Collins, PLANE-STRAIN STRESS DISTRIBUTIONS IN DISCRETE AND BLENDED COATED SOLIDS UNDER NORMAL AND SLIDING CONTACT, Wear, 185(1-2), 1995, pp. 23-33
Improvement of the wear properties of engineering components can be ac
hieved by the application of surface coatings. In this paper, properti
es of the stress fields induced in such composite bodies by the applic
ation of normal and frictional loading distributions under plane strai
n conditions are studied. Attention is concentrated on those aspects o
f the stress fields which control the development of surface cracks, d
elamination and the long term behaviour of such surfaces (shakedown).
The effect of using blended coatings instead of single uniform coating
s is studied.
