Several mononuclear complexes of bivalent metal ions with two new liga
nds i.e. 1(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3(4-fluorophenyl)1,3-propadione (hfp) Ia a
nd 1(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3(4-chlorophenyl)1,3-propadione (hcp) Ib, are sy
nthesized from methanolic solution. These complexes have [ML(2)].nH(2)
O stoichiometry (M = VO2+. Co2+, Ni2+, CU2+,d UO22+ and n = 0 - 3.5).
The magnetic moments of these complexes (except [UO(2)L(2)].nH(2)O whi
ch are diamagnetic) are between 1.93 - 4.91 BM which are typical of mo
nonuclear species. The infrared and electronic spec(ra of these comple
xes are utilized lo ascertain metal ligand binding sites. These com,pl
exes are assigned an octahedral structure (II and IIb) except [UO(2)L(
2).nH(2)O complexes (IIIa and IIIb) which are seven coordinated with p
entagonal bipyramidal environment.
