Abstract
A new method is described for the preparation of symmetrically substit uted xanthenes 12. They were obtained by consecutive rearrangements an d intramolecular cyclizations of allyl aryl ethers 3 formed in situ fr om hydroquinone derivatives 1 and methallyl alcohol (2).
