IR data showed that distribution of a plasticizing agent, dibytyl phth
alate, in a cellulose nitrate matrix was controlled by heterogeneity o
f its molecular structure, Spectral characteristics such as width of b
ands of stretching oscillations nu(NO2) and optical densities of a com
plex band of stretching oscillations nu(OH) of cellulose nitrate were
measured. To estimate the heterogeneity of molecular structure and the
inhomogeneous distribution of a plasticizing agent in cellulose nitra
tes, relative contents of hydrogen bonds of various types were evaluat
ed The distribution of a plasticizing agent in cellulose nitrate was s
hown to be controlled by nitration conditions, which were responsible
for the heterogeneity of the molecular structure of the polymer.
