Abstract
Antisymmetric bending analysis of sandwich plates with symmetric and b alanced laminated faces and an orthotropic core is presented here. The transverse shear and normal strain and stress effects on bending of s uch sandwich plates are considered. A set of twelfth-order governing e quations and consistent boundary conditions are given from a mixed var iational theorem. The response of square sandwich plates with fully si mple supports subjected to transverse sinusoidal loading is evaluated. The numerical results are compared with elasticity solutions and resu lts obtained from other theories. The present theory is found to agree closely with three-dimensional elasticity solutions.
