C. Samanta et al., COULOMB-NUCLEAR INTERFERENCE IN 56 MEV DEUTERON BREAKUP AT EXTREME FORWARD ANGLE, Physics letters. Section B, 352(3-4), 1995, pp. 197-200
Recently measured C-12(d,pn)C-12 breakup data show a dip in the energy
integrated cross section below a momentum transfer similar to 117 MeV
/c. We analyse these data by the prior form distorted-wave Born approx
imation theory. Although the double humped structure of the theta(p) =
theta(n) = 0 degrees data exhibit the dominance of Coulomb-breakup, t
he pronounced asymmetry of the energy sharing data cannot be explained
through Coulomb breakup only. A closer agreement to the data is obtai
ned through Coulomb-nuclear interference and an unusual optical potent
ial of longer range in the exit channel.
