Tl. Le et al., EXPERT-SYSTEM APPLICATION FOR VOLTAGE CONTROL AND VAR COMPENSATION, International journal of engineering intelligent systems for electrical engineering and communications, 3(2), 1995, pp. 79-85
This paper introduces a new approach for voltage control and reactive
power (VAR) compensation in electric power systems using steady stare
network equivalents and expert system techniques. This approach can be
applied in planning and operation studies. A steady state network equ
ivalencing technique is implemented to construct the ''three tier'' su
bsystem which is adequate for solving voltage violation problems. An e
xpert system utilises the sensitivity tree method to select the optima
l set of control actions to alleviate the voltage violation problem. T
he expert system was developed using the VP-EXPERT system shell. VP-EX
PERT interacts with a power system analysis software providing analysi
s of the network sensitivity matrix and data for tire knowledge base.
Results are demonstrated on the modified IEEE 30-bus test system.
