Abstract
We present a posteriori error estimators suitable for automatic mesh r efinement in the numerical evaluation of sensitivity by means of the f inite element method. Both diffusion (Poisson-type) and elasticity pro blems are considered, and the equivalence between the true error and t he proposed error estimator is proved. Application to shape sensitivit y is briefly addressed.
