The Enhanced Computer-Administered Test (ECAT) battery was selected by
a Joint-Services panel of testing experts tasked with finding compute
rized tests that were likely to increase validity when added to the Ar
med Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The tests are descri
bed in this article and illustrated with sample items. Factor analysis
of the ASVAB and ECAT battery showed that, although there is consider
able overlap between the batteries, the ECAT battery measures 3 abilit
y factors beyond those measured by the ASVAB: Working Memory, Spatial
Ability, and Psychomotor Ability.
