Ma. Southamgerow et al., COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS, Child and adolescent psychiatric clinics of North America, 6(1), 1997, pp. 111
The procedures used in and the outcomes produced by cognitive-behavior
al treatments for psychological problems in youth are reviewed. The th
eoretic underpinnings of cognitive-behavioral interventions are descri
bed, and the general intervention strategies are detailed and discusse
d. With reference to specific clinical disorders in children (e.g., an
xiety, depression, aggression), the differential application of cognit
ive-behavioral strategies and procedures and the overall outcomes of r
esearch evaluations are considered. Future directions for theory devel
opment, practical application, and research evaluations are offered.
