Chitosans of two different molecular weights are proposed as constitue
nts of microparticulate matrices loaded with a water-insoluble drug. D
examethasone was chosen as the model drug. The dexamethasone-loaded mi
crospheres, prepared by spray drying, were studied with respect to mor
phological characteristics, drug content, particle size distributions,
thermal behaviour and powder X-ray diffraction characteristics, and i
n vitro drug release. A remarkable enhancement of the dissolution rate
of dexamethasone was achieved.
