Abstract
Mass transfer rates in Z Cha and U Gem are determined from the luminos ity of the hot spot, taking into account the effects of the variable r adius of the disk. In both systems the mass transfer rate increases du ring outburst by a factor of about 2. In U Gem its subsequent decline takes more than 40 days.
