This paper describes one aspect of collaborative professional developm
ent in the design and delivery of a course of instruction for libraria
ns on the applications, tools, and potential for research on the Inter
net. Using computer-mediated communication technologies in a networked
learning environment, the authors (a university librarian and a unive
rsity systems analyst) collaborated across campus and departmental lin
es to create and deliver the course, first as a distribution listserv
over the Internet and then as a resource page on the World Wide Web. I
n this paper, the authors discuss the need for such efforts, share the
ir experience as collaborators, assess the strengths and weaknesses in
herent in their approach, and offer advice to those interested in deve
loping similar programs or in adapting this program to their own purpo
ses.
