This paper describes a therapeutic model for working with children in
the care system who have severe behavioural problems. The model is an
extension of consultation work and was developed from clinical materia
l. It links some of the theories about the internal conflicts of child
ren to their family history and ways of consulting with the profession
al network, to give a coherent framework for action. The advantages an
d shortcomings of this model are discussed and some preliminary result
s are reported.
