Abstract
The first demonstration of 30 dB gain in a 1.3 mu m Raman fibre amplif ier at a pump power of only 350 mW at 1.24 mu m is presented. To obtai n high-gain efficiency, silica-germanium fibres possessing both increa sed GeO2 content and simultaneously reduced Ge-induced losses have bee n used.
