The generation of steady state higher-order squeezing in the sense of
Hong and Mandel [Phys. Rev. Lett. 54 (1985) 323; Phys. Rev. A 32 (1985
) 974] and also of Hillery [Phys. Rev. A 36 (1987) 3796] in a multipho
ton micromaser with a lossless cavity is investigated. The results sho
w that the cotangent state which can be generated by the coherent trap
ping scheme in a multiphoton micromaser can exhibit not only second-or
der squeezing but also fourth-order and squared field amplitude squeez
ing. The influence of the atoms' time distance randomness and the cavi
ty loss on squeezing is briefly discussed.
