The integration of a laser Doppler vibrometer with computer controlled
scanning mirrors provides a versatile system for vibration measuremen
t. Such an instrument has been developed at Rolls-Royce, with the obje
ctive of using it for vibration measurement in both the laboratory and
in a hostile environment such as an engine test cell. This paper desc
ribes this system together with a number of examples of its applicatio
n to vibration testing in aero-engine development.
