S. Mcleod et K. Isaac, USE OF SPECTROGRAPHIC ANALYSES TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF PHONOLOGICAL INTERVENTION, Clinical linguistics & phonetics, 9(3), 1995, pp. 229-234
A case study is presented which describes the use of spectrographic me
asures to analyse the effectiveness of phonological intervention. Perc
eptual analysis showed that the child realized the phonemes /l/ and /j
/ as the phone [1]. However, acoustic analysis showed slight differenc
es between his productions of /l/ and /j/. The child's development of
differential phones involved systematic acoustic changes. Principles o
f coarticulation formed the basis of intervention which resulted in ad
ult productions of /l/ and /j/. This study indicates the potential val
ue of acoustic analyses for evaluating the efficacy of phonological in
tervention.
