Studies of the Fe-57 Mossbauer effect in monoclinic FeGeO3 between 4K
and 293K revealed a magnetically ordered structure below 53K. A magnet
ic transition was found at 14K. Between 15K and 53K, the alignment of
the Fe2+ magnetic moments is apparently antiferromagnetic. Below 14K,
the moments change their orientation abruptly to an apparently canted
structure. Orthorhombic FeGeO3 was also found to be magnetically order
ed below 49-50K, revealing a similar transition at 10-13K as in the mo
noclinic phase.
