To investigate how to take an existing refereed, paper-based journal a
nd produce a networked electronic version of it, a number of universit
y libraries taking part in Project ELVYN have been building a variety
of systems in conjunction with a publishing house. Here we detail the
system developed for the Pilkington Library at Loughborough University
of Technology, which has subsequently been used at a number of other
sites in Europe. This system has been useful to the publishers, librar
ians and users for gaining an insight into how electronic versions of
paper journals may be provided.
