The high-temperature modification Sm-2(Fe,Ti)(17) of Th2Ni17 type was
found to exist in the Sm(Fe1-xTix)(y) alloy system (0.04 less than or
equal to x less than or equal to 0.07 and 8.0 less than or equal to y
less than or equal to 9.0) at T greater than or equal to 1250 degrees
C. More low-temperature phases Sm(Fe,Ti)(12) and Sm-2(Fe,Ti)(17) of Th
2Zn17 type form from this modification. A ternary Sm(Fe0.935Ti0.0658.5
, compound analogous to the Z-phase Sm(Fe0.91V0.09)(8.5) is obtained i
n the interval 1150-1250 degrees C. It can be considered to have a new
type of a superstructure based on the CaCu5-type structure with a mon
oclinic unit cell having parameters a=0.972 nm, b=0.856 nm, c=1.063 nm
, beta=96 degrees 50'.
