Abstract
Optical properties such as the radiative lifetimes (T-m) of the lasing transition F-4(3/2)-->I-4(11/2) at 1.05 mu m, the absorption coeffici ents (beta) for the hypersensitive transition ((4)G(5/2)<--I-4(9/2)) i n the wavelength region 560-590 nm and also certain nonlinearity chara cteristic parameters such as theta(d), n(2), gamma and ((3)(chi IIII)) were determined for eleven newly developed Nd3+-doped chalcogenide gl asses. These laser optical materials were significantly influenced in their properties by irradiations carried out with an argon ion laser ( 488, 514 nm) and a UV source (254 nm).
