Abstract
The photocatalytic degradation of phenol was investigated in the oxyge n-saturated titanium dioxide suspensions in the presence of dissolved metal ions Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Cr3+ and Fe3+ in the concentration range 0.28-1.1 mM. The most photoactive systems for phenol degradation were found in the presence of ferric ions, while th e addition of Cr3+ strongly inhibited the photocatalytic decomposition of phenol. The role of dissolved metal ions in the photocatalytic pro cesses on TiO2 surface is discussed.
