By illuminating a mirror with monochromatic X-rays at very grazing ang
les, clear Fraunhofer diffraction fringes arising from the small dimen
sions of the reflected beam in the reflecting plane have been observed
. Their intensity distribution is rationalised with an analytical mode
l based on diffraction from an inclined slit.
