The extraction of trivalent rare-earth metal (Pr-Gd) nitrates by mixtu
res of di-iso-octylmethylphosphonate ((DOMP) and trialkylmethylammoniu
m nitrate (TAMAN) in various ratios is studied at 298.15 K and pH 2. C
ompounds of formula Ln(NO3)(3) . 3S, Ln(NO3)(3) . iA (i = 2, 3), and L
n(NO3)(3) . jA .(3 - j)S (j = 1, 2), where A is TAMAN and S is DOMP, a
re formed in the organic phase. The extraction constants of the mixed-
ligand metal solvates obey statistical laws and decrease in the order
Pr > Nd > Sm > Eu > Gd.
