Abstract
The first year after college is theoretically important because of its transitional nature. Considerable diversity exists in work and school activities in this first postcollege year. Contrary to expectations, the effects of spending that year neither working nor going to school on subsequent socioeconomic achievement, marriage, and childbearing ar e not strong.
