Principal parameters are elucidated of the reaction of spongy titanium
sieve residues with carbon black in melts containing lower titanium c
hlorides and alkali metal chlorides. It is found that carbidization oc
curs in the near-diffusion area. The reaction of titanium with carbon
in the chloride melt may be considered as a version of the combined se
lf-propagating synthesis.
