Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in combination with gadolinium-diethyl
enetriaminepenta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA) enhancement was used to investi
gate the integrity of the blood-brain barrier in a hamster model of sc
rapie (263K) during the clinical phase of the disease. The post Gd-DPT
A images of the infected hamster brain showed marked enhancement, whic
h was not present in control animals. These results that blood-brain b
