Using a vacuum gauge we demonstrated that with less effort, the identi
cal vacuum can be obtained using a 10-cc syringe as opposed to a 50-cc
syringe. We recommend using a 20 cc syringe during transthoracic need
le aspiration since the syringe is easier to handle and still allows s
ufficient vacuum to be developed, even if a small amount of air enters
the syringe.
