The present study developed and tested a structural model of procrasti
nation based on a set of personality variables in a sample of college
students. Through the use of a path analysis, fear of failure was show
n to play an important role in procrastination. This was due primarily
to its substantial influence over the construct as well as to indirec
t influences mediated through competition, depression and planning. Al
l the intervening variables had direct effects over procrastination, a
nd all path coefficients were significantly different from zero.
