Abstract
Starting from a cellular automaton model (CA) for general conditions o n a freeway we come up with a formulation of an automaton to include t he case of hindrances on a road. Investigation of our model results in a phase diagram introducing a new phase between laminar and jammed tr affic. This phase is characterized by the spatial coexistence of behav iour known from the original model.
