The bis(methylzinc) derivative of triborane(9), prepared by the gas-ph
ase reaction of B4H10 with Me(2)Zn at ambient temperature, is a dimer
[(MeZn)(2)B3H7] with an unprecedented structure featuring two distinct
zinc environments; two B(3)H(7)ZnMe ligands, formally derived from B3
H8 by replacement-of a mu(12)-H by a mu(2)-ZnMe unit, each function in
a bis(bidentate) manner linking together two other MeZn centres throu
gh pairs of Zn-H-B bridges.
