Abstract
Reaction of 1,2,3-triarylbenzo[b]thiophenium salts with alkoxide anion s results in:the exclusive formation of (Z) alkoxy-substituted alkenes , indicating that the nucleophilic ring-opening reaction proceeds with complete retention of configuration.
