Vg. Papacharalambous et al., DEVELOPMENT OF PEMPHIGUS IN A PATIENT WITH RHEUMATOID-ARTHRITIS DURING A COURSE OF GOLD THERAPY, EJD. European journal of dermatology, 7(1), 1997, pp. 65-66
Gold sodium thiomalate has been reported to exacerbate pemphigus. We r
eport a 64-year-old patient with rheumatoid polyarthritis who was trea
ted with gold sodium thiomalate. During this treatment itching and bli
sters developed on the trunk, the limbs and the oral mucosa. The onset
of the disease during the course of chrysotherapy, the clinical, hist
opathological and immunological findings as well as the benign evoluti
on after withdrawal of gold therapy and the improvement of the patient
on corticosteroids suggest the diagnosis of pemphigus induced by gold
.
